ADVOCACY ACTION TEAM
Making Our Voices Heard Through Interfaith-Based Advocacy That Honors Creation
The Advocacy Action Team identifies important environmental issues and legislation related to the climate crisis, with an emphasis on climate justice that seeks to protect vulnerable, often rural communities. We advance these issues by educating ICCT members and taking actions at the congregational, local, state, and national levels. Our advocacy focuses on:
- Accelerating the transition to clean, renewable energy
- Decreasing carbon emissions
- Promoting clean air and water
- Protecting ecosystems
Our newest initiative, Interfaith Climate Advocates Network (ICAN) creates, trains, and provides support for small groups to meet with their legislators and advocate for specific environmental issues.
EARTH-FRIENDLY PRACTICES ACTION TEAM
Promoting Earth-Friendly Practices for Our Faith Homes and Our Own Homes
The Earth-Friendly Practices Action Team promotes activities that inspire and mobilize people of faith to adopt practices that have a positive impact on creation through personal actions in their own homes and faith communities. We encourage members to:
- Reduce carbon emissions
- Minimize plastic waste
- Promote composting and soil restoration
- Protect and provide for biodiversity
We organize fun and environmentally-friendly activities such as recycling, tree planting, sustainable gardening and landscaping, and fair trade sourcing and shopping. We also manage the Earth-Friendly Practices Survey that tracks what our member faith communities are doing, as a means to inspire others.
MULTI-FAITH ACTION TEAM
Inspiring Diverse Faith Communities to Embrace and Care for our Sacred Home
The ICCT Multi-Faith Action Team brings together people of diverse religious backgrounds to provide opportunities that strengthen our connections to each other and the earth. Our work includes:
- Identifying and promoting faith-based resources for creation care
- Learning and sharing about common themes among various religions regarding the intersection between faith and stewardship of our sacred home
- Offering multi-faith spiritual experiences like prayer, nature hikes, and meditative walks
- Planning tours, talks, and celebrations at a variety of faith communities
- Encouraging spiritual leaders to speak about creation care in services and other communications
We believe our power is in our diversity and mutual respect for all creation.
YOUTH ENGAGEMENT ACTION TEAM
Engaging Youth in Caring for the Environment Through Education and Action
The Youth Engagement Action Team supports congregation-based endeavors to engage youth in caring for the environment as an integral part of living out one’s faith. We strive to:
- Support and educate youth leaders in our member congregations
- Identify others in the community who have enviro-youth led groups
- Provide seasonal opportunities for youth engagement activities in the Triangle that may include clean ups, visits to environmental research labs, tours of renewable energy sites, and other educational events.
We hope to build up the younger generation to become the leaders of tomorrow and champions for creation.
Support Teams
COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT TEAM
Spreading the Word about ICCT and Sharing Information With Our Members
The Communications Support Team manages all communications both internally within the organization and externally to the public. Our responsibilities include:
- Updating the website and ICCT YouTube channel
- Publishing a monthly newsletter and periodic NewsFlash emails
- Promoting ICCT events to other environmental organizations with whom we are allies
- Creating brochures, flyers, banners, and other promotional or event-related material
We are also available for other communication needs that might arise.
LIAISONS & MEMBERSHIP SUPPORT TEAM
Engaging and Supporting Liaisons and Members to Become More Active in ICCT and Beyond
The Liaisons & Membership Support Team recruits new members and liaisons for ICCT. Liaisons are dedicated members that agree to serve as a point of contact for their faith communities in ICCT. We encourage liaisons to:
- Meet periodically for fellowship, support, and inspiration
- Share information with their faith group about upcoming events that promote Creation Care activities in the Triangle
- Share their own Creation Care happenings with the ICCT network
- Learn from the expertise and experiences of other ICCT member communities to bring about positive change in their own circles
We welcome new members who are not able to be a liaison but still want to be part of ICCT.
PROGRAMS & EDUCATION SUPPORT TEAM
Planning Events and Educating About Faith-Based Approaches to Creation Care and Environmental Justice
The Programs & Education Support Team plans the large ICCT Conventions and works with the Board and Action Teams to assist them with their programs, which might include educational events, activities, and webinars. We achieve this by helping with:
- Development, planning, and promotion
- The actual rollout of programs
- Communications with guests as needed
Our team also interacts with ICCT’s partners and allies to collaborate with and promote activities that align with our priorities.
