The Season of Creation Celebrations
September 1 – October 4, 2023
The theme of the Season of Creation 2023 is Let Justice and Peace Flow and it’s based on the verse above from the Book of Amos 5:24 in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible and from the Jewish Torah.
The Season of Creation, a Christian celebration, is an excellent opportunity to weave inspirational Creation care messages into worship and education programs at your congregation. During any liturgical season, this can be a challenge for Creation care and justice teams seeking the ear of those who make the decisions. If you face that challenge, please consider studying and sharing these or other selected resources with your leadership teams, worship council, and clergy.
The Season of Creation is an annual celebration to pray and respond together to the cry of Creation. The ecumenical family around the world – including Catholics and Protestants – unites to listen and care for our common home, the Oikos of God. The Season “Celebration” begins September 1, the Day of Prayer for Creation, and ends October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations.
The Season of Creation Celebration Guide will help you learn about the season and plan to celebrate it. Also visit the Season Of Creation website for more resources, including webinars and prayer services, sample flyers, bulletin inserts, and the official Season of Creation social media channels. Ecumenical faith leaders from across the world have prepared a special 6-minute video to invite you to take part in this season. Many have also shared their reflections in the Guide to inspire our ecumenical family in this journey forward as Christians everywhere prepare to witness the power of working together to let justice and peace flow as we care for our common home.
