Listen to the Voice of Creation,
Heal the Earth…Our Home
People of all faiths and the entire community were welcomed to the BeeLoved Community Garden of West Raleigh Presbyterian Church, Raleigh on Saturday, September 24 at 3:00 PM. The service was sponsored by Interfaith Creation Care of the Triangle and Church Women United of Raleigh. It blended liturgy developed by the International Committee for the Fellowship of the Least Coin with portions of the Season of Creation service.
Surrounded by nature, there was silence and music, reflection on how we fail to care for the earth, a commitment to make changes, and prayer and praise for God’s amazing creation. A least coin (a penny) was requested for an offering. Ren Martin from NC Interfaith Power and Light gave the message that one person said, “reminded us of Amanda Gotham’s poetic style.”
The Season of Creation is an annual Christian celebration to listen and respond together to the cry of Creation as the ecumenical family around the world unites to pray and protect our common home. The Season begins September 1, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations. By listening to the voice of all creation, humans from all cultures and sectors of life can be joined in our vocation to care for our common home.
Thanks to members of the ICCT Earth Friendly Practices Team and Church Women United of Raleigh who are from West Raleigh Presbyterian, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, and Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Cathedral for planning the prayer service.
