ICCT Youth Leaders Gaining Momentum
The Triangle’s Youth Creation Care movement emerged from a 2023 series of listening sessions with interfaith youth at several Triangle congregations, and has continued to grow ever since.
Soon after attending a listening session, some Durham teens formed the Youth Creation Care Leaders. They created an interactive presentation on Creation Care and began sharing it with youth at other area faith communities. According to Liz Becker, ICCT’s Youth Engagement Leader, these youth-to-youth events continue, and are well received by the participants.
Meanwhile, the Durham group inspired the creation of a similar group at Raleigh’s Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, called the Climate Bears. Active in Creation Care activities at their own church, the Climate Bears have now taken their youth-to-youth show on the road.
Both groups welcome new new members. And they welcome additional faith communities to become involved.
