ICAN stands for Interfaith Climate Advocates Network
It is a program launched in January 2026 by the ICCT Advocacy Team, with support from the NC Council of Churches Eco-Justice Connection.
What it does
ICAN helps people from different faith and spiritual backgrounds advocate on environmental issues by giving them:
• Training
• Scripts and instructions
• Support for meeting with legislators
• Policy and legislative updates
• Guidance for public comment and broader advocacy
How it works
When someone signs up, they are placed in a small group of peers in their voting district. The program helps them:
1. Schedule meetings with elected officials
2. Prepare for those meetings
3. Conduct effective, respectful advocacy
Main goal
ICAN aims to make advocacy feel easy, accessible, and grounded in faith, especially for people who may feel intimidated by political engagement.
Additional benefit
Participants can also connect with like-minded people nearby and build community.
