On April 8, Will Scott, Energy Policy Manager for the North Carolina Conservation Network, spoke on “Clean Energy Opportunities in 2021 for North Carolina” in a meeting sponsored jointly by Interfaith Creation Care of the Triangle and Orange-Chatham Interfaith Creation Care.

Scott shared his in-depth knowledge of the climate and energy policy issues under discussion within and around the North Carolina General Assembly.  He discussed legislative directions on energy and climate change, the major players involved, and the status of Duke Energy’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).

Will Scott, Energy Policy Manager for the North Carolina Conservation Network, holds a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree in the field of Environmental & Administrative Law from the University of North Carolina School of Law.

As Energy Policy Manager for the North Carolina Conservation Network, he covers energy policy issues facing the NC General Assembly, state agencies, and commissions. Previously, he completed a fellowship with the Duke Environmental Law & Policy Clinic, served for three years as the Yadkin Riverkeeper, and coordinated state and federal political campaigns. In his free time, he teaches a course on Food, Agriculture & Environment at Duke University Law School. He is a proud Chatham County, NC native.

Dr Gary K Smith is a member of the ICCT steering committee and of Community UCC in Raleigh, where he leads their Justice in a Changing Climate initiative.  He has a passion for reducing fossil fuel use, which he pursues through chairing NCIPL’s Energy Working Group, helping churches obtain PV solar, and reducing his own energy consumption; his home is heated and cooled by geothermal HVAC and includes a solar array that provides 80% of his family’s electricity. He enjoys nature, science and the out of doors, the latter especially while on a bicycle.
